As we’re in the midst of TT, we saw this as a great opportunity to spread the word about the young sidecar racer we’re sponsoring.
Up and coming sidecar racer, Harry Payne, made his TT debut this year in the Locate.im race with local newcomer Michael Jackson. The duo had a good opening lap of 106.242mph and have the makings of becoming established riders in the years to come.
Our sponsorship goes towards Harry’s race entries and boat fares that, as you can imagine, soon adds up which is why we’re keen to help raise his profile among our followers.
We caught up with Harry to find out more about his journey so far and plans for the future.
What made you decide to go into sidecar racing?
I’ve always wanted to race, for as long as I can remember. I started with trials and then graduated to classic sidecar motocross. That led to modern sidecar motocross, which then transitioned to road racing.
What do you like most about sidecar racing?
My favourite part about sidecar racing is the family aspect of the race paddock. Everyone will help everyone which doesn’t happen in solo racing. It’s like one big family.
What do you need to have to succeed in the sport?
To be successful you need three things: natural ability, a positive attitude and the finance to meet race costs. Thankfully, Ambitions are helping to make it possible for us to compete at the world’s most famous road race.
What has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment would have to be these last few weeks. We have built a bike in two weeks, taken the first laps of the TT circuit and entered the Locate.im Sidecar Race. It’s been an incredible buzz!
What are you most looking forward to for this year’s TT?
I’ve been looking forward to finishing both races. Anything more than that would be a bonus. Competing is the biggest test of man and machine.
What have you got lined up in the near future?
I will be back with Olly for some more club racing in the near future. I also have a few things up my sleeve in the build-up to the end of season British Championship Wildcards, including new bodywork and a new race tuned engine.
How can people follow your journey or sponsor you?
